Lisa's Juicer

Homemade juices seem to be very hot and happening the last few months, and I have been responding frantically on anything juice-related on numerous blogs and forums. However, I completely forgot to blog about my own juicer! I've had this baby (a Princess VitaPure 202041) since November, and I don't think I have ever been more in love. It juices anything - hard, fibry stuff like carrots, beets, and ginger, but also the softer citrus fruits, mangos and pears it has no trouble with. It does seem to have some issues with squeezing all of the juice out of the softer fruits and veggies, but I found that alternating between hard and soft pieces while juicing, solves this problem pretty much entirely.

I am well aware that this is not a food blog - and there are so many food blogs with awesome juice recipes around, I couldn't possibly compete with -, but I cannot deny you the recipe for my favourite concoction!

What you'll need:
1 or 2 oranges
1 grapefruit
a piece of ginger
3 or 4 carrots
optional: wheetgrass powder

First, you peel the citrus fruits, and cut of a piece of ginger. I am quite fond of ginger, so I usually use a lot (twice of what you see in the picture), but if your not very keen on it, or have never tried it before: a little goes a long way! Don't fuss around too much when peeling the fruit; the juicer will take care of it.

And then you switch the machine on, stuff everything in there, and watch how the machine transforms the ingredients into beautiful fresh juice in the one container, and dry pulp in the other. Easy peasy. As I said, I usually alternate between the hard and soft stuff, but for your viewing pleasure, I juiced the carrots first. (Don't you just love the sight of that dry pulp? :p )

When you juiced everything, stir and poor in a glass. You could add a bit of superhealthy wheatgrass powder if you like, but trust me: it's already pretty healthy as it is. This amount of fruits and veggies is enough for one big glass of morning juice, and together with a brie sandwich and a steaming hot capuccino, I couldn't have a happier start of the day!

I don't plan on making my juices a recurring part of this blog, but if I come up with something brilliant, you'll be the first to hear it :) Also, I am always looking for new recipes to try, so if you have any, please let me know!

Love,
Lisa
